The size of the Mátra Hunting Area is almost 27,000 hectares, of which 90% are covered by forests. It extends across nearly the entire Mátra Mountains. In the lower areas, there is a rich shrub layer that is vital for the wildlife. Regarding hunting, the eastern and southern sides of the mountains are of particular importance. Also, the quality of trophies is better here than on the northern side. Within the hunting area, there is a wildlife park, and on the edge of the village of Verpelét, there is a 1,184- hectare game enclosure. This wild boar garden is suitable for breeding mouflons and wild boars.
