There are vast forests, cultivated areas, and vineyards in the region that provide excellent habitat for big game. The highest quality pine, oak, and beech forests are located here. Red deer and wild boar are of top quality, while the roebuck and small game population are less significant.
The most significant game in the region is the world-famous red deer. The average weight of trophies harvested here often exceeds 7 kg! The antlers of the strongest stags can weigh as much as 12 kg or even more. Zala County is renowned worldwide for having the highest ratio of gold medal trophies. Currently, 16 of the 50 entries on the world-record list are from Hungary, with 4 originating from this specific region.
The second most important game is the wild boar. Many hunting clubs organize well-coordinated and largely successful wild boar drives during the winter. On good days, a group of 10 hunters can harvest up to 15-20 boars. Some wild boar reserves offer programs that complement open land hunting.
Numerous partners in the area operate modern hunting lodges catering to all preferences and needs; ensuring our guests are always accommodated at a first-class level. Hunting equipment and facilities are properly maintained, and our guests are guided by professional and experienced hunters.
As an optional activity, we recommend visiting historic towns rich in ancient monuments, such as Sopron, Győr, Kőszeg, or Szombathely. Sites of world cultural heritage include Pannonhalma or the Fertő-land, featuring medieval fortresses, baroque castles, and churches. All provide an unforgettable cultural experience for travelers.
Don't miss the opportunity to taste some of the region's typical dishes, such as dodolle (made of potato, pumpkin, and poppy-seed tart). While here, it's also essential to sample the world-renowned wines of Sopron, Zala, and Somló!
